Ophthalmic Consultations & Exams

The eye serves as a window to a pet’s internal health, reflecting potential issues that may affect their overall well-being. At our clinic, we’re proud to provide comprehensive ophthalmology examinations in-house for our patients. By carefully assessing the health of your pet’s eyes, we can detect and address any underlying conditions early, ensuring they receive the care they need to maintain optimal health and vision.

We have the professional ophthalmology tools and equipment to perform comprehensive eye exams and procedures.

During an ophthalmic examination, we conduct a thorough assessment of your pet’s eyes, which includes:

  1. Schirmer Tear Test: This evaluates tear production to assess for conditions such as dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca).
  2. Intraocular Pressure Check: This measures the pressure within the eye, which is crucial for diagnosing conditions like glaucoma.
  3. Fluorescein Stain: This test helps detect corneal ulcers or abrasions by highlighting areas of damage on the cornea.
  4. Microscopic Examination with a Slit Lamp: This allows for detailed examination of the eye’s structures, including the cornea, iris, and lens, using a specialized microscope.
  5. Retinal Examination with Ophthalmoscope: This involves examining the back of the eye, including the retina and optic nerve, to assess for conditions such as retinal detachment or optic nerve abnormalities.

By performing these tests as part of a comprehensive ophthalmic examination, we can accurately diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions in your pet.
